My role I am a Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex and a Fellow of the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP). You can find a brief bio on the SSRP website. In 2021 I received a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Global Fellowship which is funding me to conduct full time research for three years with the first two spent in South Korea on secondment to the Mosim and Salim Research Center. My job title doesn’t give much away so let me tell you a bit of my story.

    Dr Miseong Cho

    Dr Miseong Cho is a senior researcher of Mosim & Salim Research Institute and a guest lecturer at Seoul National University. After spending many years working as an educator in alternative schools in Korea, she received her master’s degree with a research dissertation titled: “A qualitative case study on forming and learning process of a community for energy transition initiative.”(2016, SNU). Her doctoral thesis “Citizen participation and transformative learning in energy transition: the case of a zero energy housing complex" (2020, SNU). Her main research interests include climate change education, scientific-technological citizenship, deliberative democracy in cooperatives. Recently, she has been contemplating how to incorporate the philosophy of the life movement into Commons movement aimed at overcoming the current climate and ecological crisis.

      Dr Yikyung Kim

      Dr Yikyung Kim is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Academy of East Asian Studies, Sungkyunkwan University. Her primary research focuses on the history of the East Asian cooperative movement and the culture of reciprocity and solidarity, with a long-term historical perspective. Her research includes “The Formation and Development of the Korean Cooperative Movement under the Japanese Colonial Rule: Focus on Concepts, Participants, and Solidarity” (2022, Ph.D. thesis), “Characteristics of the Development of Korean Co-operatives under Japanese Colonial Rule”, “The Establishment and Spread of Hamchang Cooperative in Gyeongsangbuk-do under Japanese Colonial Rule”, etc. She also published several books with fellow researchers including “100 years of the Korean Co-operative Movement” and “Conversation of Cooperation”.
